I design & build
interfaces people
enjoy
Senior frontend developer in Brisbane, with a bit over 20 years of it. JavaScript, TypeScript, PHP and the modern frontend stack. Happy anywhere from the first sketch to the part where it goes live and has to keep working.

I like turning messy problems
into tools that work
The good bit is the moment a client realises their day just got a fair bit easier. That is most of why I do this.
Built for people
Making an interface that feels obvious is genuinely hard work. I put the effort in so your users do not get lost or annoyed, and I build actual feedback from real people into the process rather than guessing.
Fast, because slow is annoying
An app that responds the instant you touch it is a quietly lovely thing. Optimistic UI, fast websocket connections, that sort of approach, so people are not left watching a spinner.
The right tool for the job
No "one size fits all". A custom POS and a headless shop want different things, so I pick the stack that suits the actual business and is not a nightmare to maintain a year later.
AI, without the mystique
AI features do not have to be a black box. I add things like smart search and auto-generation where they genuinely help, and leave them out where they would just get in the way.
Dull deployments
A launch should be uneventful. Automated tests and a proper deployment pipeline mean the new thing goes out without drama and then stays up.
The whole thing
From the first pixel to the last database query, I do the lot. No gaps, no "that is not my department", just something that works end to end.
Designing with purpose,
building for performance
I'm Torsten Schmidt, a seasoned UI/UX Developer from Dresden, living in Brisbane for now 15 years. With over 20 years of experience I specialize in bridging the gap between user-centric design and robust engineering using Vue.js, typescript, and modern frontend architecture.
My philosophy is centered on solving real-world business challenges with web-based apps while also focusing on making the end-user experience as pleasant as possible. While I also build websites I especially enjoy building digital tools that feel effortless to use, eliminating learning curves through smart design and working closely with the client and user base.
Full-Stack
I'm happy to admit I don't know everything ... by far. However, I make it an effort to learn and educate myself every day – in both – front and backend world.
Performance First
The prettiest interface can't hide a slow working app. I always code and design with app performance in mind.

Projects that ship &
users that actually smile
Recent work showcasing modern web development, real business impact, and obsessive attention to user experience.

ploynt
A German gaming and LAN-party community that shut its doors in 2011, and would have stayed shut had its entire database not turned up, perfectly intact, on an old hard drive somewhere. What follows is a proper rebuild on modern infrastructure, not a lick of paint over the old thing, and, rather touchingly, real members of the original community wandered back within the first week.

FloorView
Your Shopify traffic, rebuilt as a small 3D shop you can walk around. Watch shoppers browse live, wind any past day back to follow one visit from the door to the till, and (with Pro) offer a stuck shopper a hand. No cameras anywhere; it is all reconstructed from events the store already records.

Vectron
A free tool that turns an ordinary image into a proper SVG, entirely in your browser. Eight sensible presets, nine controls that are actually named after what they do, and a queue for when you have forty logos rather than one. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Complex Tech,
Simple Experiences
The best tools are the ones you don't have to think about. I build smart, event-driven interfaces that handle the heavy lifting behind the scenes, so your users can focus on what matters.
The Interface
Reactive, type-safe frontends built for speed.
The Backbone
Robust data architecture and real-time syncing.
The Connection
Seamless communication between systems.
Have something that needs
building properly?
A shop that actually sells things, some awkward bit of logic nobody else wants to touch, or just a second opinion on what you already have. The workshop is open.
